Cookie Policy
Last updated: July 4, 2026
The Short Version
This site uses browser localStorage for site preferences and the Advocate Toolkit. Analytics is optional: Google Analytics and Vercel Analytics load only if you choose “Allow Analytics” in the cookie banner. We do not use ad pixels or third-party remarketing tags.
1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by websites you visit. They are widely used to make websites work, improve efficiency, and provide information to site owners. Related technologies include localStorage (data stored in your browser) and similar mechanisms.
2. Cookies We Set
Valor Investigations does not set first-party tracking cookies.
We store your cookie/analytics choice in localStorage under `valor-cookie-consent`. The Advocate Toolkit may also store form progress in localStorage so you do not lose work if you close the tab. We do not serve advertisements and do not use cookie-based session management.
3. Third-Party Cookies
The following third-party services may receive technical data when you use specific features of this Site:
| Service | When | Purpose | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vercel | All pages (hosting platform) | Performance, security, edge routing, server logs | Essential |
| Google Analytics | Only after analytics consent | Traffic measurement and conversion tracking | Optional analytics |
| Vercel Analytics | Only after analytics consent | Aggregate page performance and usage metrics | Optional analytics |
Essential hosting logs cannot be disabled without preventing the site from operating. Optional analytics can be declined in the banner and will not load unless consent is stored in your browser.
4. localStorage (Browser Storage)
The Advocate Toolkit uses your browser’s localStorage to save form progress so you don’t lose your work if you navigate away or close the tab. This includes:
- Case information you enter (names, case number, county, etc.)
- Your written narrative
- Document type selection and disclaimer acceptance
This data never leaves your device. It is not transmitted to our servers or any third party (except your narrative when you explicitly use the AI polish feature — see our Privacy Policy for details).
How to Clear localStorage
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and Security → Clear Browsing Data → check “Cookies and other site data”
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data → Clear Data
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data → search for this site → Remove
- Edge: Settings → Privacy, search, and services → Clear browsing data
5. Managing Cookies
Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can configure your browser to:
- Block all cookies
- Block only third-party cookies
- Delete cookies when you close your browser
- Notify you when a cookie is being set
Blocking all storage may prevent the cookie banner from remembering your preference and may prevent the Advocate Toolkit from preserving draft form progress.
6. Future Changes
If we add any new non-essential tracking technology in the future, this policy will be updated and the consent mechanism will be adjusted before that technology loads.
